it's kind of obvious that the ps3 will have better graphics, as its coming out over a year later. as for the controllers, the new 360 controllers are almost exactly like the ps2 controllers now. and for the dreamcast issue, the dreamcast flopped because it was shoddily made, and came out just a few months before ps2. xbox 360 is coming out more than a year before ps3 and from what i've seen is made just as well, if not better, than the original xbox

Nice posting guys. So that .. at least half of you will get xbox 360. Wonder how many will return it and create a thread here saying "OMG Xbox 360 suxor!"

let's see, of the 360 launch titles, perfect dark zero, and quake 4 are fps's. all the others are racing, adventure, etc. as for the "all console game top selling games is fps", basically your thinking of halo and halo 2. a lot of the others are diff types, like mgs, zelda, and ninja gaiden. there are actually very few good fps games on console. the main game that i'm looking forward to on 360 is definitely elder scrolls iv: oblivion

actually, halo was originally made on xbox and then ported to the pc, if you'll remember right. as for halo 2 being overrated, i agree. although it is an incredibly fun game, it does get old after a while, and xbox live can tend to wear on one's nerves after the fifteenth 8 year old kid tries talking trash to you after you massacred him

False. HALO was original designed for the PC, like the Marathon games. Microsoft settled a deal with Bungie and sat on the PC version of HALO until the XBox sales took off. And yeah, HALO 2 blew. Two weapons and worse graphics with OFFLINE lag. Wooo.

I will most likely end up gettin all three, cuz I got all 3 of the current gen systems, BUT the revolution has my wholehearted support. PS3 and Xbox 360 are just better grafixed versions of their predecessors, theres nothing new about them gameplay wise. Nintendo has taken the gaming market and shaken things up with the DS, and now the Revolution. When have $ony or M$ ever done that? never to my knowledge. It gets boring to play the same games over and over again, but with some slight twist that makes them different. In essesnce, all FPS are the same, just with differnt methods of killing. RPGs are NOT all the same, but there are cookie-cutter rpgs that just blow balls. Some RPGs get no credit, like Dark Cloud 1&2. They were both great games, and if they made another I would buy it. /end rant

lol. again, False. Halo was originally desigend for the mac. but microsoft bought out bungie, and halo was almost completely redesigned. and, since it never actually made it onto mac, it cant be called a port. a port is something that was published on one system and then republished on another. the mac-version of halo never came. the pc version of halo didnt come out for a while. and though you are definitely entitled to your own opinion, i'd just like to speak my own mind on your comments on halo 2. the graphics were by FAR better on halo 2 than on halo 1, i never experienced any of the offline lag your referring to, and the two weapons idea, if you haven't noticed, has been adopted by almost every single fps developer out there

Erm. There is no opinion on whether Halo 1 or Halo 2 has better graphics. I think its blatant that Halo 2's graphics are better. Not by a considerable amount, but better nontheless. The real issue isn't the graphics; it was the campaign. Halo 2's campaign has none of the epic shootouts in Halo 1. Hell, the entire awesome looking level was E3 was removed in the final game.

When I say PC I mean computer platforms, even if a mac can't really be concidered a computer in my book, but rather a dandy paper weight.

Halo 1 was overrated, honestly. As soon as it came to PC, everyone realised it was just average. Ever wonder why no one talks about the PC version? It was a good console shooter, but thats about it... mainly because consoles lack a good fps market(two joysticks is terrible control compared to mouse/keyboard.)
Honestly now... The Library level? What were they thinking? "Lets put an insane ammount of enemies in a very repetitive level. Boy that'd be fun"
There was nothing earth shattering about either game. Of course, the whole reason to play was the multiplayer... where I'd rather have a solid single player game. It was basically the "goldeneye" of its day, but because it featured online play, it was hyped much, much more, because now you could frag pre-teens while they yelled at you over a mic.
The only level I thougth was kinda cool in Halo 2 was the first level....mainly because it didn't have the annoying "spacey" look that was overdone in the first game.

Halo 1 had flaws sure, namely that library level and a lack of bots. However, I thought that the level assault on the control room and the last level were quite impressive. Halo 2 didn't really have any that just jumped out at me.

Umm... Wasn't this thread about the next generation consoles and not the merits and faults of the Halo series? Personally, I'm gonna probably only by the Nintendo Revolution and I only have one reason for it; downloading old school games. I know that this can already be done with the roms and such, but that just doesn't ever feel right when I play them. I think I was sold when I heard I could download alot of the old NES and SNES games I unfortunately sold.
Btw, I prefered Halo 1's story and single player to Halo 2. But the multiplayer on Halo 2 was really it's biggest selling point imo.

Okay, since you guys got on the subject of Halo, I guess I will have to spread some insight. Halo was a revolutionary FPS. Period. Let's look at what it was the first to do:
1. Grenades on an alternate fire mode (you don't have to pull them out)
2. Several different vehicles that you can control easily and in many missions/situations
3. A good AI. Halo's AI was amazing for an FPS... If you want proof how detailed it is, compare the AI of the flood (midless, charge-at-you) to the covenant (organized tactics, crouch behind cover, etc.)
4. Rechargeable health, but not totally rechargeable - you are not permanently screwed just because you were hit a few too many times
5. Give a reason as to why you can take so many hits
6. Have a good, followable, in-depth storyline
7. Limit number of weapons allowed to be carried at a time (think James Bond)
8. Have a managable number of weapons in the game (again, think James Bond)
9. Gave each weapon its own place in the game (plasma pistol for shield removal, pistol for headshot, etc.) as opposed to just making guns successively get better
10. Force the player to develope good strategies for completing difficult areas (If you can beat the first room after the grav. lift on Truth and Reconciliation on Legendary difficulty solo, then I salute you)
11. Have a fun multiplayer that inspired people (myself included) to invite a group of friends over to play 8+ person games
12. Have a co-operative mode so you and your buddy dont have to play against each other
I find it hard to compare console games to PC games (especially FPSs), as they are usually fundamentally different. PC games are usually more twitchy-finger, as a mouse and keyboard allow for this, while console games are usually slower because you have joysticks and buttons to work with. This being said, it is no supprise that Halo flopped on PC because it was built with joysticks in mind.
Now let's look at what Halo 2 did on the positive side:
1. Amazing system with dual wielding where you have control over what weapons you want in what hands, while not making this overpowered (loss of grenades and melee)
2. All the new stuff (weapons, vehicles, maps, etc.)
3. Great graphics for a console game
4. More customization in gametypes for multiplayer games (like 1-flag)
5. Xbox live
6. Rockets became more of an anti-vehicle weapon than anti-infantry weapon
7. Cool easter-eggs (skulls)
And the negative:
1. Skill became much less of a factor. In Halo:CE, skill was required to a much larger degree than in Halo 2. An example is if you ever play on LIVE, then you have seen the people who get the beam sword and camp in a small room. This takes no skil, and highly un-funs the game .
2. Single player totally did away with everything they strove for in Halo:CE. The missions on Legendary were not made more challenging because the enemey was smarter... they just made them take 4 full clips to kill, and you died in 6 shots.
3. Did away with health - this is bad because in multiplayer, it is an all-or-nothing situation where it doesn't mater if you almost killed them, just if they actually die or not.
Both games were great, but Halo 2 did seen to make almost as many problems as it fixed. I love them both, and I will continue to play them with my friends whenever we get the opportunity.

Halo 2 was essentially a large expansion pack...
I was personally done with the story as soon as a giant monster underwater picked up MC and that alien. From that point on, I don't remember a single thing.

I agree that Halo 2 created more problems than it fixed. Remember the plasma sword. The cheapest weapon you can use on xbox live. Some people would called it the uber sword of death, i called it cheap way to kill someone and show how elite you are. Heck, they even have a lock on button so that with a press of a button, you can kill a single enemey with one slice.
I hope that Bungie doesn't drop the ball with Halo 3, all the fans of Halo series would want a better story line for single player mode and a improved online mode. Oh yeah, and i'm sure people don't want Bungie to nerf any weapon or else it would take out all the fun in Halo.

I think one of the reasons the dreamcast wasn't a mad success was because it was hard to pirate games. I mean they used GDROMS (BAHAHHAHAHA) and how easy was it to buy a GD burner? It was really just an undercranked CD (LOL). I think the easy pirating of games helped make playstation 1 and 2 successful.

PS3 and Revolution...
PS3=better graphics than xbox 360, and better games in my opinion.
Revolution=arm exercise, I need it.
